December was an awesome month! The students were great and the teacher was happy, can't ask for more than that. The last day of school before the holiday break we all took a magical trip to the North Pole on the "Polar Express". One quote from the book that is true for Mrs. Topham - "Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me as it does for all who truly believe." Happy Holidays!

Fantastic Mr. Shirley

Mr. Shirley was our student teacher for 6 weeks. He taught us about the difference between real and make-believe in the stories that we read. We also learned about the good foods we need to eat to keep our bodies healthy. But, one of our favorite memories will be the great, green "git"fiddle (guitar). It was always a BLAST when Mr. Shirley would play for us. Thanks, Mr. Shirley - We will miss you! Come back and see us soon!
Turkey Time in Kindergarten!

We are thankful for so many things in kindergarten
Family, food, friends, toys, outside, animals, homes and the Earth.
(these are actual quotes) This month we enjoyed learning about the first Thanksgiving and how the pilgrims and Indians feasted for three whole days. We had real Native American dancers come to class. Our very own classmate and her brother! Thanks for coming, you are awesome dancers. At our "feast" we made lots of yummy food. We dressed as pilgrims and Native Americans and sang songs. Our favorite song is about the Thanksgiving dinner. As we finished our meal, Mrs. Topham asked, "What do we do when we are finished eating?" A hand shot up and an answer came, "We Dance!" Needless to say we did a little dancing.

Fire Safety
Our first kindergarten field trip was to the fire station. We loved exploring the "Fire Safety House" and learning fire safety rules from Firefighter Travis Douglas.

Here are just a few of the safety tips - 1. Make sure everyone in the family knows the escape plan from every room in your home. 2. Never open doors that are hot to the touch. 3. When your clothes catch fire - STOP! DROP! ROLL!

Cedar City Fire Safety House.
WHO IS THAT IN FIREFIGHTING GEAR? Mrs. Topham dressed in fire gear, not because she wants to be a firefighter for Halloween, but to demonstrate to the students what to expect in case they ever have a fire at their home.

Smokey Bear visited our class and taught us about "Never Playing with Fire". We got up close and personal with this cuddly bear. We think he is the BEST! Thanks for all the great stuff.

If you don't want to choke, Crawl under the smoke. Get down on the floor and head for the door.

I Love Kindergarten!
This picture tells it all. . . My kindergarten room will soon be the busiest and most exciting place around. I know that I've been looking forward to the new year and can't keep a smile from my face each time I think about the adorable, sweet, and funny kids that will be coming to school this year. I love kindergarten and hope the children will too.

Getting Started!
During the summer the custodians work really hard to clean the whole school. After rooms are scrubbed and sparkling the teachers get started on preparing the classroom for all of the fun students who will be coming to school. In my room things were piled high and took a long time to organize for the beginning of school, but don't worry, I'll be ready and raring to go!
